A little slice of heaven could be yours at Dendy Street Beach when two of the last three bathing boxes under the current Master Plan go under the hammer on Saturday 28 April.
Brighton’s row of colourfully painted bathing boxes is an iconic Melbourne sight, photographed extensively by locals, visitors and tourists.
Dating back to the 1900s, the bathing boxes are all built to similar standards consisting of a pitched roof and vibrant paint finish. They are mostly used for
change facilities, shelter, and storage for beach equipment and personal items.
Project Manager Robert Conn said owning a bathing box licence is becoming a rare privilege.
“Bayside City Council has been building only a maximum of two bathing boxes each year and after these two, only one more remains to be built under the Dendy
Street Beach Master Plan,” he said.
Proceeds from the sale of bathing boxes goes toward the costs of implementing the Master Plan at this much loved precinct.
To purchase the lease for a bathing box, you must be a Bayside resident.
