Concourse works will roll on

Friday, June 28, 2019

Works on the Concourse Streetscape upgrade will soon resume following Council’s resolution to retain the mix of asphalt and exposed aggregate concrete that is currently being implemented as part of the Beaumaris Concourse Streetscape Masterplan.

A notice of motion was called by Council on 21 May that requested a report to be undertaken into the feasibility of material changes for the footpath replacement currently under construction at Beaumaris Concourse. This report was a called for in response to concerns raised by community members about the use of asphalt and sought to consider implications if the asphalt was replaced with grey sawcut concrete.

After considering the report, the recommendations that Council have supported are the following:

  • Continue with plans to implement the mixed asphalt and exposed aggregate treatment to the footpaths, as per the endorsed Masterplan.
  • Remove the use of granitic sand within the Concourse Village Green.

Council will also consider new seating locations, provision of services and garden bed planting under trees will within the Green to preserve the current condition of the site.

Asphalt has been selected following extensive community consultation on the materials chosen for upgrading the streetscape and will replace the existing brick paving in the Concourse to provide a safer and more accessible footpath.

The works in the Concourse have been temporarily postponed as a result of the National Broadband Network roll out and the notice of motion, we will now recommence the works in three to four weeks and are expected to complete the upgrade in mid-November, weather permitting.
