Congratulations to Bayside’s new state MPs

Bayside Mayor, Cr Hanna El Mouallem has warmly congratulated the winning candidates in the Victorian election for seats covering Bayside.

The elected representatives are:

  • James Newbury MP for Brighton
  • Brad Rowswell MP for Sandringham
  • David Davis MP for Southern Metropolitan Region
  • Georgie Crozier MP for Southern Metropolitan Region
  • Kathrine Copsey MP for Southern Metropolitan Region
  • John Berger MP for Southern Metropolitan Region
  • Ryan Batchelor MP for Southern Metropolitan Region.

“I look forward to continuing to work with our community’s representatives in the Victorian Parliament," Cr El Mouallem said.

The Mayor also congratulated the Andrews Labor Government on its re-election. “Bayside is committed to working with the state government to deliver on issues of importance to our community that Council cannot deliver alone," he said.

Advocacy to other levels of government is a key role for Council and we have actively pursued a strong advocacy campaign up to, and during the Victorian election campaign, on behalf of our community”, Cr El Mouallem said.

The Victorian Government committed to removing the Highett and Wickham Road level crossings in Highett during the election campaign.

Council will continue to advocate on issues including funding for gender neutral sports pavilions, funding for a warm water pool and better bus services as well as a range of joint advocacy priorities with other local governments.

Bayside’s advocacy priorities are based on long term community aspirations as articulated in the Bayside 2050 Community Vision and the responding actions in the Council Plan 2021-25. These strategic plans are based on strong community engagement and feedback on what kind of Bayside we want in the future.
