Digital parking permits on the way

Residents parking in Bayside beach car parks will soon be able to register for free digital Foreshore Parking Permits which can be easily transferred between vehicles.

Bayside’s traditional highly valued Foreshore Parking Permit stickers will be mailed to more than 24,000 households with the printed 2023/4 rates notices at the end of July.

This year, the 24% of ratepayers who receive their rates notice via email or BPayView will be invited to register for a digital Foreshore Parking Permit rather than ordering a printed sticker. The new digital permits are being trialled for 24 months.

Foreshore permits enable residents to park for free in council carparks and paid parking along Beach Road, while residential parking permits allow residents to park in allocated timed streets without having to comply with the times restrictions.

Bayside annual Residential Parking Permits will be issued as digital permits from September 2023 and current holders of these permits will be automatically registered for their new permit.

Bayside Mayor, Cr Hanna El Mouallem said the digital trial would help Council to gauge acceptance of new permit technology by the community.

“Many residents already use digital technology to receive and pay their rates. The digital parking permit trial will make it simpler and more secure for these residents to register and transfer permits between vehicles,” Cr El Mouallem said.

“Residents who prefer a paper sticker will still be able to order them from Council. The trial will help us to measure community appetite for digital permits as well as develop programs to support residents who need assistance with digital technology.”

The option of digital permits will also help to eliminate instances of lost, damaged, missing permits or permits not received.

Digital parking permits will make it much easier for residents to register, use and transfer permits between vehicles and provide more security. They will also reduce the environmental impact of print and paper protect the environment.

Moving forward, new tenants and new property owners will be issued with a digital parking permit on application, while any additional permits purchased will also be digitised.

The hybrid digital parking permit trial will last up to 24 months for Foreshore and Residential Parking.
