Do you need an event permit?

If you’re planning an event that is going to impact other users of our streets or footpaths, you’ll need an event permit from Council.

With the festive season fast approaching there are lots of fantastic community events planned and happening across Bayside.

We love events that bring our community together to enjoy Bayside’s wonderful open spaces and other outdoor areas. We are here to help event organisers to ensure your event runs smoothy and doesn’t impact other residents.

If you’re planning an event that is going to impact other users of our streets or footpaths, you’ll need an event permit from Council. This is to ensure events are safe for all. It also means that no one else will use the space that you want to use.

Council can also provide small grants of up to $1,000 for Bayside events and festivals run by community groups for the benefit of the Bayside community.

Event permits

Events that might impact other users of Bayside’s streets, footpaths, public open space or property owned or maintained by Council need a permit. Your event is not approved until you receive your event permit.

If you are holding an event on private land you may require a planning permit for any infrastructure you install for the purpose of the event. For further information please call our Planning Department on (03) 9599 4444.

As an event organiser, you are responsible for:

  • Ensuring that all requirements of your permit application are met.
  • The safety of the people at your event and the general community affected by it.

We will work closely with you during the planning of your event so you can provide a positive and safe experience for everyone and minimise conflict with any other events, which may be planned in Bayside.
