Drainage works on the Hampton foreshore, opposite Orlando St, will be carried out by Melbourne Water from mid-November until early December.
Bayside residents may notice:
- beach closure in the immediate vicinity of the drain chamber on the foreshore;
- Works from 7am – 5pm weekdays and Saturdays 7am to 1pm (if required)
- temporary site facilities on Beach Rd near New St and;
- a speed limit reduction from 60 kmh to 40 kmh intermittently between off peak times (8.30am to 3.30pm)
The work will replace the 20 year old rotted timber decking, broken grates and other non-functioning parts of the main drain, known as the Grenville St Main Drain Chamber, and will ensure the drain provides a pressure release for stormwater during heavy rain events.
Heavy equipment and transport vehicles will be onsite during the work from the beach access point (opp New St) down to the work site (opp Orlando st).
The shared path for pedestrians and cyclists will remain open during the work.
All work will be carried out within the Environment Protection Agency guidelines.
