Minister joins Bayside City Council in celebrating library upgrades

The Hon. Melissa Horne MP, Minister for Local Government and Bayside Mayor Cr Alex del Porto

The refurbished Hampton Library was officially opened today, with Bayside Mayor Cr Alex del Porto and fellow Councillors joined by the Hon. Melissa Horne MP, Minister for Local Government and Zoe Daniel MP, Federal Member for Goldstein. They also celebrated the many upgrades across Bayside Library Service.

Cr del Porto spoke of how valuable our libraries are to the community.

“We understand the significant role that libraries play within our community and the importance of accessibility to the fantastic services the library has to offer,” del Porto said.

Upgrades include our new state-of-the-art 24/7 library locker in Brighton East, refurbishment works at Beaumaris Library and the installation of smart returns bins at our Brighton, Beaumaris and Hampton branches. Hampton Library will also launch its unstaffed extended hours program later this year, an initiative that Cr del Porto noted will play a pivotal role within our community.

“The introduction of the 24/7 library lockers at Hurlingham Park, and the soon-to-be expansion of the out-of-hours access at Hampton Library, means our community has far greater access to our library service in a time, and location that is convenient to them,” Cr del Porto said.

Bayside City Council was extremely fortunate to obtain grants under two different grant programs from the Victorian Government, to create additional community access to our wonderful library service. We received a $92,500 Library COVID Recovery Project grant and $90,000 from a Living Libraries grant – with Council matching the $182,500 to complete the works.
