Our Tree-mendous Urban Forest

Over the past two years, we’ve nearly planted 5,000 trees across our municipality's streets and parks. Our goal is to enhance the natural beauty of Bayside's green spaces while improving biodiversity and preserving our local ecosystems.

To achieve this, we've been reducing the number of exotic and non-indigenous trees and increasing the planting of a diverse range of indigenous species. In fact, 47% of the 4,911 trees planted were indigenous to the Sandbelt region, while 41% were native to Australia, and only 12% were exotic.

Trees play a critical role in mitigating the effects of climate change, providing habitat for wildlife, and improving the overall health of our community. They also offer many practical benefits, such as providing shade and helping to reduce the effects of urban heat.

With over 65,000 trees already growing in the parks and streets within Bayside, we are committed to contributing to a thriving and sustainable community.
