Playgrounds reopen

Thursday, September 10, 2020

In great news for our young residents and their families, Bayside playgrounds reopened from 11.59pm on 13 September following the Victorian Government’s announcement of a five step roadmap on the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

The outdoor gym equipment in Dendy Park have also reopened.

Click and collect book reservations by appointment will be available from Monday 14 September at Brighton, Hampton and Beaumaris Libraries.

Library members can reserve items online and book in a collection time by contacting the Library. If you’ve yet to join, call the Library on 9261 7840 and we’ll get you started. Reserve your books and find out more here.

We are preparing for the slow and gradual reopening of other Council facilities in line with the five steps. You can view the Premier’s announcement and COVID-19 Roadmaps to reopening here.

Throughout the pandemic, we have and will continue to provide a broad range of Council services safely either online, via telephone or under strict COVID-19 health and safety guidelines. Find out more here.

First step openings from 11.59pm on 13 September

In addition to the reopening of playgrounds, outdoor gym equipment and library click and collect, two people or a household can meet outdoors for a maximum of two hours for social interaction, exercise or recreation within 5km of their home in Bayside’s wonderful open spaces.

Throughout the easing of restrictions, please continue to:

  • Wear a face mask
  • Remain 1.5m apart
  • Practice good hand and cough/sneeze hygiene
  • Stay home if unwell.

Over coming weeks, we will continue to prepare for further steps. The health and safety of our residents, visitors and staff is our top priority when considering how best to reopen our facilities.

Support for local businesses

Council has and is continuing to provide a range of support measures to assist local businesses and will consider future assistance now that the Victorian Government roadmap has been announced.

We are engaging with Bayside traders via representatives of our key shopping villages on our local economy recovery plan. This includes investigating opportunities to maximising footpath trading for outdoor dining in activity centres once this is permitted under the Third Step.

Please continue to support our local businesses by shopping locally. Visit the Still Open for Business Directory for details of local trader ready to assist you.

As we ease out of restrictions, each of us can play our part to keep one another safe.
