Saving Dendy Street Beach

Council is seeking approval from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning to renourish Dendy Street Beach with sand from the adjacent northern beach.

Targeted sandbagging will also be used to address the impact of coastal erosion to the bathing boxes, middens and vegetation at the beach.

Longer-term options are also under consideration, but the short-term fix is intended to be implemented quickly to provide immediate protection of the Bathing Boxes and dunes.

The beach renourishment and sandbagging have an anticipated life span of three to five years, depending on storm and high tide surge activity.

If DEWLP grants a permit for the project work is likely to take place in the first half of 2022.

Council has allocated  $245,000 in the 2021–22 budget to undertake these works.
