Upgrade for Beaumaris Concourse

Tuesday, May 23, 2017

Beaumaris Concourse will be leafier and easier to get around with Council adopting a new master plan for the much loved shopping area.

Bayside City Council Mayor Cr Alex del Porto said the new master plan would enhance the community atmosphere of the Concourse as well as its role as a local retail and meeting place.

“The Concourse is the geographic and social heart of the Beaumaris community and local residents have a strong connection to the village feel and green leafy character,” Cr del Porto said.

“The master plan has been developed to create new public spaces with additional plantings and seating areas to make the Beaumaris Concourse a more attractive place to be.”

Key elements of the master plan include:

  • Prioritising pedestrian safety with improvements to paving and traffic flow through the central car park
  • Creation of a new village square in the east Concourse
  • Increased planting and new seating areas throughout the Concourse
  • Improved signage including on Reserve Road
  • Retaining the natural, green character of Concourse Green with additional planting and new seating.

Cr del Porto said the development of the master plan included three stages of community consultation. A Reference Group with representatives from resident, trader and local community groups was involved throughout the process.

“Many members of the community are passionate about Beaumaris Concourse and Concourse Green in particular. Council has listened to community feedback and used it to guide the adopted master plan,” Cr del Porto said.

Immediate improvements to the central car park public toilet have already been carried out to address safety and mobility access concerns highlighted during the community engagement activities. Further work will be carried out as part of the master plan implementation.

Council will now commence detailed design and documentation for the Beaumaris Concourse Streetscape Master Plan, with construction planned for 2018/19.
