Planning for the future of athletics

Council has been working with the athletics clubs to assess their current and future needs and consider how best to support athletics in Bayside in the future.

A Project Reference Group was formed in early 2017 with representatives of Sandringham Athletics Club, Sandringham Little Athletics Club and Brighton Little Athletics Club.

Council has also engaged an experienced recreation consultant to conduct a Needs Assessment for Athletics. This will incorporate current and projected membership numbers, use of current facilities and data from state athletics association.

The results of the Project Reference Group and Needs Assessment were presented to the September 2017 Council Meeting.

Council has recognised the importance of athletics in Bayside but also that the future of the sport will require peak body support.

We are now requesting the clubs to work collaboratively and with the peak bodies to develop a strategic plan and suitable funding model for the renewal and upgrade of athletics infrastructure in Bayside. This includes the Glamis Avenue track and associated infrastructure as well the facilities at Dendy Park.
