In December 2019 Bayside City Council voted unanimously to declare a Climate Emergency, recognising the need for urgent, meaningful action on human-induced climate change.
Since then, Council has developed and adopted the Climate Emergency Action Plan 2020 – 2025 based on the feedback of nearly 3,000 community members. This Action Plan steps out our urgent response to the impacts of climate change.
As part of our response to the Climate Emergency, we are hosting the second annual Schools Climate Action Summit on Wednesday 16 June 2021.
We are inviting up to 10 students from Years 5, 6, 7, and 8 from each Bayside school to participate in a day of youth climate action workshops. These students could be part of your school's environment group, school leadership group, or environment captains.
Every school attending will need a supervising teacher to accompany their students for the entire event.
Due to the current COVID-19 situation, the event will be held virtually to ensure the health and safety of our community. The event will run virtually from 9:30 am – 12:00 pm. The event link along with further details will be emailed to the supervising teacher contact prior to the day.
The Schools Climate Action Summit 2021 is operating according to Victorian Government COVID-19 guidelines and is dependent on the current COVID-19 restrictions.
