Asher Bilu: Early works 1956-79 is a major survey exhibition by this singular artist. Brighton-based Bilu’s unique vision is unparalleled within Australian art, and he has produced a remarkable body of work over the last seven decades. His elaborate works reflect a fascination with light, cosmology, science and music, as well as a desire for sensation and beauty.
Always ready to discover new ways of expression, Bilu’s use of unconventional media and techniques can sometimes blur the boundaries between painting, sculpture and installation. Covering the first two decades of his art practice, the exhibition provides an ambitious overview of this seminal period in Bilu’s career during which he achieved much critical success. This exhibition will allow audiences to experience the foundational early works which established him as a groundbreaking artist.
