Skip bin permits

You need a permit to place a skip bin on council land, road or nature strip. Find out about skip bins for your property and how your skip bin company applies for permits.

How to get a skip bin for your property

Talk to a skip bin company. After they confirm your requirements they will apply for a permit on your behalf.

How does a company register and apply for permits?

Register your company online

Registered companies will get an email giving them access to an online application form. They can then use this to apply for skip bin permits.

How long does it take to get a permit?

Processing an application takes on average 5 to 7 working days.

If successful, we will email the company the permit and terms and conditions. If there are any issues, we will contact the company.

How long do permits last?

Skip bin permits are valid for 7 days from the approved date of placement.

What are your responsibilities?

  • To ensure the bin is placed lawfully and adheres to the permit terms and conditions and VicRoads Code of Practice found at www.vicroads.vic.gov.au
  • Ensure that the bin is secure at all times and presents no danger to the public.
  • Any litter or rubbish dumped in or around the waste or skip bin be removed.
  • Reinstate any and all damage to pavement, nature strip and services. If these are not reinstated, we will complete the works at the permit holder's expense.
