The Blake Prize Touring Exhibition
8 March – 6 April 2014
The Gallery @ BACC is proud to present The Blake Prize Touring Exhibition, an exhibition and annual prize featuring 42 artists and poets who investigate the themes of religion, spirituality and human justice in their work.
The Blake Prize has a long history of prompting engaging and sometimes contentious discussion about the highly complex subjects of spirituality and religion. A highly sought-after award, attracting interest from artists of all backgrounds and cultures, it is also Australia’s longest standing art prize.
For the first time in its history, the finalists include a representative from every state and territory across Australia. In addition, there is a diversity of backgrounds, ages and educations with finalists ranging from leading contemporary practitioners to emerging and self-taught artists.
The Blake Society, named after artist and poet William Blake, has in recent years revitalised the exhibition with the inclusion of photographic and new media works, as well as the addition of the emerging artist award, an award for poetry and an award dedicated to the recognition of social justice.
The Blake Prize Touring Exhibition is presented by The Blake Society and The Gallery @ Bayside Arts & Cultural Centre, and will run from 8 March – 6 April 2014. Please contact The Gallery for further information.
