Bayside review put on hold for Plan Melbourne
26 March 2014
Council will ask the Minister for Planning for an extension of time to complete a review of the Bayside Planning Scheme in order to allow for Plan Melbourne and reforms to State Planning Policy to be finalised.
The purpose of the review is to assess how effectively and efficiently the Bayside Planning Scheme is achieving the objectives of planning in Victoria and the specific objectives and strategies of local policy, zones, overlays and provisions.
Plan Melbourne is the Victorian Government’s draft strategy for addressing Melbourne’s infrastructure, housing, employment and environmental challenges. It is expected to have important implications for the Bayside Planning Scheme that will need to be addressed in the four yearly review.
Councils are required to review their planning schemes within 12 months of adopting their Council Plans. Council will request an extension from June 2014 to March 2015. Community consultation will inform the review.
