Next stage in Brighton Beach Oval reconstruction
22 August 2014
Works for the reconstruction of the Brighton Beach Oval are set to begin mid-September.
The entire oval will be upgraded to improve turf cover, the size of the surface, irrigation and drainage.
To enable the establishment of turf, public access to the ground will be restricted until April 2015.
It is expected to be ready for play in April.
Mayor Laurence Evans said when completed, the oval would provide an improved playability for all users, including football and cricket teams.
"This project is part of $8.67 million in upgrades to sporting facilities across Bayside this year," Cr Evans said.
"When completed, this project will encourage greater sporting and recreational participation by local clubs and the community.
"Clubs are temporarily relocated while works are underway."
Brighton Beach Oval is used by a wide cross-section of the community for both sporting and recreational pursuits. It is home ground to the Brighton Cricket Club, Old Brighton Grammarians Football Club and Brighton Beach Junior Football Club.
