Brighton Town Hall to pump to the sights and sounds of sand and surf

12 November 2014

On the afternoon of Sunday 23 November Brighton Town Hall will once again pump with the sights and sounds of surf with a special screening of Bruce Brown’s iconic 1964 surf movie The Endless summer.

The event harks back to the 1970’s when the Brighton Town Hall hosted some of the hottest Surf Film Festivals around and is being held to celebrate the closing of the Gallery @ BACC’s highly popular exhibition Grommets, grinds & gnarly dudes.

Bayside Mayor Cr. Felicity Frederico said that the event proves to be an exciting one for surf lovers young and old.

“During the 1970’s Brighton Town Hall was a hub for surf film screenings like Morning of the Earth, Tubular Swells and Crystal Voyager,” Cr Frederico said

“Our Grommets, grinds & gnarly dudes exhibition has been an outstanding success and has been particularly popular with male audiences who might not normally come through our doors,”

“We are excited to be bringing surf films back to the town hall for what promises to be a great afternoon for surfing enthusiasts, art lovers and film buffs young and old alike.”

The event is also acting as a fundraiser for the Disabled Surfers Association of Australia Inc, a voluntary organisation catering surfers with all classes of disabilities.

“The Disabled Surfers Association of Australia is committed to putting a smile on the dial of anyone with a disability who is keen to get out into the surf,” Cr Frederico said.

“We are delighted to be partnering with the Disabled Surfers Association of Australia who will be the recipients of all the proceeds from the event.”

Visitors are invited to come down to The Gallery at 2pm to take in the exhibition, enjoy some light refreshments, then settle in for the movie.

“Audience members are encouraged to get dressed in their best surf gear and there will be prizes for the loudest shirt,” Cr Frederico said.
