Youth Documentary Awards
Friday 17 July 2009
7pm – 9.30pm
The awards ceremony is a centre-piece of the festival that acknowledges the best of the best in our celebration of young voices.
The award winning Youth Documentary Project (YDP) seeks to engage young adults in positive modes of self-expression and creative investigation through the creation of short documentaries.
In 2009, professional filmmakers worked alongside media teachers to deliver a series of film production workshops to year 9 and 10 students over a three-month period. The students worked in small crews to create short documentaries on a topic of their choice. The completed films are shown throughout the Bayside Film Festival on 15 – 18 July 2009.
Youth Documentary Awards include the following:
Bruce Grantford, Richard Greenhalgh, Brian Walton and Alex Francis facilitated the workshops. Refer to Facilitators’ Biographies for further information.
Regional Delivery of YDP - The YDP was delivered to Year 9 students at Murtoa College, Murtoa for the first time and it supports the Festival’s commitment to regional Victoria.
YDP Judges:
A professional filmmaker worked alongside the media teacher to deliver workshops on the following topics:
Additional workshops are provided in the editing stage.
Future Youth Documentary Programs
It is intended that screening and awarding of youth documentaries will be an ongoing aspect of future Bayside Film Festivals. In time it is hoped that the program will be extended to include more secondary school students beyond the municipality, so that participants are able to vie for selection into future Bayside Film Festivals and compete for the top prizes.
