Bayside Recycling Stations

COVID-19 update

Our recycling stations at our Corporate Centre and Beaumaris Library are currently closed.

While we're closed, we are busy getting brand new recycling stations installed at Brighton and Sandringham libraries and upgrading the current ones at Beaumaris Library and the Corporate Centre.

Other recycling drop-off locations, such as retail stores and recyclers, may also be closed to the public or have shorter opening hours due to COVID-19. Please phone ahead to find out if these options are open.

If you can, try and hang on to these items until Stage 4 Restrictions ease.

E-waste (electronic waste) is any item with a battery, cord, or plug that is no longer working or wanted.

This covers a whole range of items from home, work, and out in the garage or garden shed, including:

  • Mobile phones
  • Laptop, tablets, and computers
  • Mouses and keyboards
  • Cameras
  • Printers
  • Cords, and mobile or computer accessories
  • Televisions
  • DVD players
  • CDs, DVDs, and floppy disks
  • Power tools
  • Small kitchen appliances (toasters, kettles)
  • White goods (fridges, washers/dryers, dishwashers)
  • Batteries

Electronic waste is growing around three times faster than general waste, with Australians throwing away more than 100,000 tonnes a year.

All electronic waste contains hazardous materials which can contaminate soil and groundwater. They also contain precious metals and components that can be recycled.

Under new Victorian Government laws, electronic waste is banned from landfills.

Bayside residents are encouraged to drop off their larger e-waste items at the Bayside Waste and Recycling Centre, 144 Talinga Road, Cheltenham 3192.

The below items will not incur a cost. There may be a charge for other e-waste items at the Bayside Waste and Recycling Centre.

  • computers
  • computer parts (hard drives, motherboards, CPU’s and CD driver)
  • computer accessories (keyboards, mouse, joysticks and web cameras)
  • tables and notebooks
  • servers
  • televisions.

If you are a Bayside resident, larger e-waste items – such as white goods and televisions – can be collected and recycled as part of your hard waste collection.

You can take small quantities of the following items to the Bayside recycling stations:

  • Batteries (household)
  • Light globes
  • Fluorescent light tubes
  • phones and cameras, cords and accessories
  • Video, cassettes and cases
  • CDs/DVDS, floppy disk and cases
  • X-rays
