Meet our friendly librarian Jack

We sat down with Jack, Acting Children and Youth Services Librarian. Find out why he chose to work at the library and what library program he likes most sharing with the community.

Why did you choose to work at the library?
It just happened organically. I knew I wanted a job where I was able to positively impact the community, and I knew I never wanted to sit at a desk all day. So, it turned out to be a pretty good fit for me. When I started, I had no idea how much libraries have to offer, so it has truly been a blessing.

Which library program or service have/do you most like sharing with the community?
There are so many great services offered by libraries, so it is difficult to choose one. But I would have to say Device Advice is probably my favourite and the one I have been doing the longest. It allows community members to sit down and get that one-on-one technological help, a service simply not offered elsewhere. Helping out with BLASTS is also pretty fun as well.

What book have you been unable to finish?
Not a day goes past when I don’t think about one of my greatest failures. It was well over a decade ago when I got to the last chapter of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and didn’t finish it. Ah, can I forgive my youthful self or was that the day I sealed my muggle fate?

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?
This one can be tricky, with so many capable actors out there, however, I would like to think I am a healthy mix between Jim Carrey and Michael Cera. So, either one of those Hollywood superstars would be ideal, the charisma of Carrey with the awkwardness of Cera.
