Community Visitor - Brighton
Are you looking for a local volunteer role where you can make a real difference? Become a Community Visitor to Mike* to reduce isolation and loneliness!
Who are we?
Better Health Network (BHN) has been formed as a result of the voluntary amalgamation of Central Bayside Community Health Services (CBCHS), Connect Health & Community and Star Health. BHN is a not-for-profit organisation providing a wide range of services to support healthy living, general wellbeing and social connection in our community.
Meaningful Connections is a government-funded program that matches a volunteer visitor with a lonely or isolated older person living in an aged care facility or in their own home. The volunteer and resident are matched according to similar interests or background. The visits are regular and purely social, with the intention of developing an ongoing friendship and social connectedness.
Whom will you visit?
Mike* is an 83 year old gentleman living in an aged care facility in Brighton. He is a direct, no nonsense person with no interest in small talk. With an engineering background, his interests include physics science, history, geography and current affairs. Mike enjoys playing chess. He is a very good conversationalist and loves to tell stories about his life and successful family. He has 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
