After school fun at FriYays

Local young people aged 10 to 17 can chill out, catch up with friends or make new ones at the after-school FriYays program of fun, free, supervised activities.

Located at Peterson Youth Centre, Highett, the FriYays program is run by Council’s friendly and supportive youth workers every Friday between 3:00pm to 5:30pm.

Bayside resident Olivia Darcy has three children, aged six to 12, two of whom have eagerly embraced the FriYays after-school program.

Olivia has already seen the benefits of FriYays on a community level for her children.

“It’s a great opportunity to give them some freedom, form connections with other kids in the area, and give them exposure to different activities than I would not be able to organise at home,” Olivia said.

As is often the case with curious tweens, it is the social interaction that her children love most about FriYays.

“They just love bumping into friends that they wouldn’t normally catch up with, as well as the variety of activities on offer, the relaxed atmosphere and, of course, the snacks!”

The other aspect they covet is the “cool factor” of the program’s instructors.

“The FriYays coordinators are young and far cooler than the other grownups in the kids’ lives,” Olivia enthused.

Anyone aged 10 to 17, with a connection to Bayside (whether studying, schooling, working, living or recreation-based), should do themselves a favour — come down and kick back this FriYay.
