Meet our friendly librarian Danya

We sat down with Danya, Bayside Libraries' resident technology whizz who has been working with us for over seven years.

What is your favourite part about working at the library?

Exploring imaginative tech ideas for the Makerspace to enhance the visitor experience is something I find personally fulfilling. It transcends conventional methods, and I hope that it generates excitement and curiosity across generations. We have exciting tech concepts in development, and I'm excited about the potential opportunities ahead, spanning from VHS editing to audio engineering and cutting-edge CGI initiatives.

What book have you been unable to finish?

I've been wrestling with 'A Little Life' by Hanya Yanagihara. It's a marathon of emotions—painful story, painfully long book. I guess I like my literary challenges with an extra dose of agony. I'll conquer it one day.

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I'd likely pick a Nigerian classic—Peppersoup, a dish deeply ingrained in my upbringing. My father puts his own spin on the traditional ingredients, and let's keep it between us, his version is way better than the classic. So, it's this sort of hybrid mix—yeah, I know, a bit controversial!

What has your favourite project at Bayside Libraries been?

The sessions devoted to "DIY digital conversion" are incredibly satisfying and truly heartwarming. Watching customers rediscover Super 8 films or converted VHS tapes after years is genuinely priceless. My next goal is to digitise 16mm film in the near future.

Danya not only showcases his impressive technology skills in the library, but he also loves to dress up and fully embody characters like the Gruffalo during Storytime (tee hee).
