Slam dunk for new basketball courts

Another score for Bayside’s basketball players, with the town planning permit approved for four new courts to be built adjacent to the Sandringham Family Leisure Centre. Council has advertised the tender for a builder to construct the new stadium. Construction is scheduled for late 2021 and is expected to take 12 months.

Council has worked closely with environmental and wildlife groups on the design and location of the facilities to protect more trees and create a safe corridor for frogs and other wildlife. The new stadium has a sustainable design with an 80 000 litre water tank and 80kw solar energy system. Fifty additional car spaces will make watching your favourite player easier.

Council is partnering with the Sandringham Basketball Association to deliver the new facilities at a total cost of $9.1 million, including a contribution from the Sandringham Basketball Association. The site lies adjacent to the Tulip Street reserve and pond which will be the subject of a separate landscape planning process.
