City Nature Challenge 2023

Sign up for the City Nature Challenge via inaturalist.org

It is time to get outdoors and explore all the amazing biodiversity within Bayside and Greater Melbourne.

The City Nature Challenge will take place from Friday 28 April and 1 May, encouraging people to investigate their local environment.

Help represent Greater Melbourne, along with over 25 other metropolitan councils, competing on a global scale.

Take photos or sound recordings of local plants and animals using the iNaturalist app and showcase Bayside’s unique biodiversity to the rest of the world.

You can play your part in contributing to scientific research by providing valuable information from our local community.

Visit some of our magnificent environmental sites including Yakulit Willam, Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary and our beautiful foreshore.

To get involved, simply:

  • Download the free iNaturalist app
  • Get out into parks, streets and backyards over the four days of the Challenge. Take photos or record sounds of wildlife, plants, insects and fungi anywhere in the Bayside area.
  • Share your observations via the iNaturalist app.
