Connecting communities

Annual community grant recipients announced.

Council has provided 36 community organisations with grants of up to $7,500 each for projects that contribute to making Bayside a better place to live.

Bayside’s Annual Community Grants support organisations to establish, extend and improve programs and services that address local needs and strengthen and enrich community life in the areas of leisure, culture, community development, environment, health, education, sports and welfare programs and activities.

Grants of up to $7,500 each may be made for initiatives by community groups that meet the objectives of the Bayside City Council Grants Policy, particularly:

  • assist community organisations to establish, extend and improve programs and services that address local needs.
  • encourage voluntary activity, community participation and the contribution of local groups and organisations to community life.
  • promote community development and partnership opportunities to address community needs.

This year’s Community Grants recipients will share in over $214,000 to offer a wide range of programs and activities to Bayside residents.

While Council supported a variety of projects, it was great to see organisations reflecting the community need for food security across multiple funding applications.

In 2020 it was estimated that 7,500 (9%) Bayside residents live in poverty- not having enough available income to afford life’s necessities such as food, clothing or healthcare.

Bayside Mayor Cr Alex del Porto said the grants are an important and tangible way for Council to support community led initiatives.

“The 36 grant recipients reflect the diverse groups and interests of the Bayside community and provide residents the opportunity to improve their overall health and wellbeing in a variety of ways,” Cr del Porto said.

“These projects will help encourage community re-connection, assist residents to get active and reduce social isolation.”

“I’m also pleased to see programs that address access to food as we know this can be challenging for some of our residents.

From community dinners to distribution of food parcels, we are pleased we can support Bayside organisations meet this increasing need for our community.”
