Councillor James Long has represented Bayside as a Councillor since 2005. During that time he served as Mayor in 2008/09 and 2015/16. Cr Long has also served four terms as Deputy Mayor. A resident and ratepayer of East Brighton, Cr Long graduated from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Arts (Multidiscipline).
In 2000 Cr Long was awarded the Bravery Medal as part of Australian Honours awards, and is also a recipient of the Australian Defence Medal (2008). Cr Long has a strong community presence in his roles as Justice of the Peace, foundation member of the Australian Bravery Foundation, foundation director and current Chair of Melbourne City Opera, past President of the Australian Bravery Association, and past Assistant District Governor of Rotary District 9800.
Cr Long has represented Bayside City Council on a number of committees including Bayside Built Environment Awards Committee, Bayside Film Festival judging panel, Metropolitan Waste Forum, Metropolitan Transport Forum, CEO’s Employment Matters Advisory Committee, and the Municipal Association of Victoria.
