This Girl Can - get active and try something new

#ThisGirlCan inspires girls and women to get active – however, wherever and whenever they choose, without being judged.

Bayside City Council is a proud supporter of VicHealth's This Girl Can - Victoria campaign which aims to encourage, motivate and inspire women and girls to get active and try something new.

All Bayside women and girls are invited to get active and spring into This Girl Can Week, held this year from 9 to 15 October 2023.

Why not start by trying a walking trail?

Three images of women and girls walking and running

From Brighton to Beaumaris, there are 17km of foreshore, cliff tops and beaches to explore by foot or on a bike. Explore these four coastal trails celebrating art, history, the environment and indigenous Bayside.

You can also enjoy one of these 9 Bayside walks boasting interesting and leisurely walks through the streets, parks and suburbs. They are designed for people of all ages and levels of fitness. Each trail provides a suggested route, estimated time and distance, information about accessibility, and locations of public services and places of interest.

This Girl Can, get active at home

If you’re not sure about taking the first step or if you want to try an activity without leaving the house, join in with the at home workouts.

Getting active - top tips

  • It’s not about what you look like, it’s about how you feel.
  • Being active ignites different feelings for different girls and women– from feeling connected and strong, to calm, empowered or happy.
  • Choose activities that make you feel good.
  • Move your body to feel good. Whether it’s a walk around the block to clear your head, or nailing a new dance move, focus on the feeling. Most of us aren’t training for a marathon or training to be the best, but we can still get active when we can, and have fun while we do it.
  • Mothers, grandmothers, sisters, bosses and friends: no matter what kind of woman we are, we support each other to have a go and enjoy life.
  • Being active can be about fitting it in when we can, returning to it when we’ve had a break, and having fun while we do it.
