Rebates for business

Available rebates and subsidies from the State and Federal governments

Small Scale Technology Certificates (STCs) and Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs) may be available to you.

Small Scale Technology Certificates

Small Scale Technology Certificates (STCs) are tradable certificates equal to 1 megawatt hour of renewable energy.

Anyone who installs renewable energy systems can create a STC. Most residents and businesses, however, assign the right to create to a registered agent such as an electrician or plumber, in exchange for an upfront discount off the cost your system (often referred to as a point-of-sale discount). The registered agent then assumes the right to the STCs.

STCs are traded on the renewable energy certificate market and the price of STCs fluctuates daily due to the demand and supply.  For more information on STCs, visit the Federal Government Clean Energy Regulator’s website.

Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates

Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs) are electronic certificates created under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) Program when new energy efficiency activities are undertaken.  The VEU program lists the different activities in which VEECs are generated.  Activities must be installed by an accredited provider.

VEECs are equal to one ton of greenhouse gas emissions reduction (CO2-e) and are applied as an upfront discount to the cost of your system, often referred to as a point-of-sale discount.

For more information on VEECs, accredited installers and eligible activities, visit the Victorian Energy Upgrades for Businesses website.
