William Street Reserve renewal
We’re upgrading the William Street Reserve oval as part of our commitment to improve the quality and sustainability of sports and recreation infrastructure across the municipality. Included in the Active by the Bay Recreation Strategy and the 2023/24 capital works program, the renewal also seeks to help meet the increasing needs for community sport and recreation infrastructure.
Key features
The essential ground reconstruction will help to improve safety and the quality of the surface for all Reserve users. Project works include:
- Upgrades to the drainage and irrigation systems
- Reshaping and levelling the playing surface
- A sun and heat-resistant natural turf surface to optimise the level of use
- New synthetic cricket pitch
- Goal post upgrade
- Perimeter fence upgrade Perimeter fence upgrade (retaining a similar aesthetic while maintaining compliance with Australian standards)
Timing
Commencing early October 2023, works will adhere to EPA guidelines with works undertaken between the hours of 7am and 7pm Monday to Friday, and 8am and 3pm on Saturday.
The project will take up to 12 months.
What to expect during works
- The oval will be fenced and there will be no public access
- Construction vehicles onsite will be managed to minimise disruption to parking and street access
- Potential for reduced parking onsite due to construction
- The playground, cricket nets and pavilion will remain open for use
Temporary off-leash dog area
A temporary fenced off-leash dog area is located on the corner of Halifax and William Streets. The area of approximately 2200m², will remain in place for the duration of the sportsground renewal project.
- The temporary enclosure can be accessed through two gates.
- Water is available at the Halifax Street end of the enclosure.
