World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
Your life. Your Choice.
In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) Healthy Ageing hosted a morning tea on the 14 June 2023. The session commenced with a chat over a cuppa and delicious cupcakes. This was followed by a 30-minute video produced by Southern Melbourne Elder Abuse Prevention Network with speakers including The Hon Dr Kay Patterson AO, Age Discrimination Commissioner and former Australian Senator, Gary Ferguson from Seniors Rights Victoria, Catherine Hayden from Better Place Australia and Phil Williamson who is a Bayside resident.
The presentation focused on supporting older people to stay in control of how they spend their money, where they live and who they see. There were stories and practical tips for where to go for information and support for staying safe and in control as you age.
