Community safety in Bayside
Bayside is calling for increased police resources to address community safety issues following an increase in burglaries and home invasions within some suburbs in the municipality.
Mayor Councillor Fiona Stitfold has written to the Victorian Premier, Jacinta Allen and the Minister for Police, Anthony Carbines seeking action.
“Council has and will continue to play a key role locally by working collaboratively with Victoria Police, Neighbourhood Watch and other key organisations to raise awareness and support a whole of community response to pro-actively identify and respond to safety issues,” Cr Stitfold said.
“With Council doing all we can to support local community safety in partnership with local police, it is time for the Victorian Government to direct more attention and resources on this issue,” she said.
Council also facilitates a Community Safety Committee, leads a Youth Safety Committee, brings together key stakeholders in the region on a regular basis, and has supported the establishment of Brighton Neighbourhood Watch and various community safety events.
Councillors also recently met with senior local Victoria Police representatives to identify strategic opportunities to improve the real and perceived safety issues experienced by the community. We are also advocating to local Members of Parliament for support to address the issue.
