Grants foster community life

Annual community grant recipients announced

We’ve granted 37 community organisations up to $7,500 each for projects that contribute to making Bayside an incredible place to live.

Our annual community grants support organisations to establish, extend and improve programs and services that address local needs and strengthen and enrich community life.

Grants funded this year include initiatives in the areas of leisure, culture, community development, environment, health, education, sports and welfare programs and activities.

This year’s community grants recipients will share in over $220,000 to offer a wide range of programs and activities to Bayside residents.

Bayside Mayor, Cr Hanna El Mouallem emphasised the importance of supporting community-led initiatives, with projects supported by these grants aiming to improve health and wellbeing, encourage connection and reduce social isolation for those living in Bayside.

“The grant recipients reflect the diverse groups and interests of Bayside residents," Cr El Mouallem said. "We hope that this support will allow these important organisations to continue to provide fantastic services to our community.”

“Connecting and encouraging residents to get involved in programs helps reduce isolation and promotes a sense of community.”

“The funded projects will ultimately help to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents in a variety of ways.”

This year’s grant recipients include:

  • Bayley House’s ‘Ink It Up’ project highlighting the artistic talents of adults with intellectual disabilities in Bayside.
  • Hampton East Brighton Football Club’s ‘Women Leaders in Football’ program to mentor women to become proactive members of local clubs.
  • Brighton Playroom’s ‘Together Songs’ project aims to connect young children and elderly residents through interactive music classes, fostering compassion and joy between generations.
  • Neighbourhood Watch 3193 is establishing a new Graffiti Busters group in Sandringham and Brighton, led by volunteers, which aims to eliminate graffiti from private property without cost for the owner.
  • Brighton Recreational Centre is running a series of free gymnastics classes targeting older adults of all abilities, designed to improve wellbeing, increase physical activity and minimise health inequalities in senior citizens of Bayside.
