Making Half Moon Bay safer and more accessible

Input from businesses, clubs and community members has informed the timing and program for the Red Bluff to Half Moon Bay Masterplan works taking place over winter. We thank everyone for their cooperation and understanding in accepting that some disruption is necessary to make the Half Moon Bay precinct safer and more accessible for everyone.

Council works

Planned Council works include:

  • new pedestrian crossings in the lower and upper car parks (B14 and B15)
  • a rain garden and pedestrian walkway from the upper to lower car park
  • safety improvements to the Beach Road entrance to the precinct for vehicles, bikes and pedestrians
  • upgrade of public lighting in the lower and upper car parks (B14 and B15)
  • improvements to public seating and all-abilities access to the pier
  • replacement of existing Bayview Crescent ramp retaining wall near toilet block.

Works are scheduled to begin in early June 2021 for approximately 13 weeks (weather permitting).

Other works

We are also working collaboratively with other agencies and contractors to encourage them to undertake their works concurrently to minimise disruption to our stakeholders.

These works include:

  • roof replacement at Black Rock Yacht Club
  • minor upgrade works at Half Moon Bay Surf Life Saving Club
  • repair works to the pier by Parks Victoria
  • Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning (DEWLP) beach renourishment and revetment wall repair. (Should you have any specific questions regarding the DEWLP works, please contact DEWLP directly on 136 186 or email the DELWP Coastal Projects team at enviroprojects.portphillip@dewlp.vic.gov.au

Access

Pedestrian access and limited vehicle access will be maintained throughout the works. Cyclists will need to dismount near construction/work zones.

Some car parks will always be available but they will change throughout the works, depending on which aspect of the program our contractors are working on. Parking in the B13 car park (north of Half Moon Bay opposite Love Street) is encouraged.

The public toilets will be temporarily closed for approximately three weeks during the retaining wall works but portable public toilets will be provided in the car park during this time.

Businesses, including the Cerberus Beach House and Kiosk and the Black Rock Yacht Club bistro, will continue to operate as usual. Access to the Half Moon Surf Life Saving Club gym, boatsheds and the Black Rock Yacht Club will still be available throughout the works.
