Meet our friendly librarian Natalie

Why did you choose to work at the library?

My first job after school was shelving books at my local library in Dandenong.  As I was working, I saw the difference library staff and libraries made to communities and decided that’s what I wanted to do as a career.

What has been your favourite read this year.

My Grandfather was talked into writing his memoirs a number of years ago. He handwrote them and it all needed to be typed up and formatted. The end of last year marked what would have been his 100th birthday and we were all given a copy of his book. It was a great gift that he left future generations and a wonderful read. Definitely my favourite book this year!

What it the best part of your job.

Seeing the satisfaction the staff get in the great work that they do and the difference they make in the communities they serve.

Do you like / not like audio books. Tell us about it.

Yes – definitely.  Audio books are great when driving long distances.

Which library app do you use.

All of them!  But mostly BorrowBox.

What was your favourite book as a child?

As a child, I loved reading Road Dahl books. It’s hard to choose a favourite.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within the library whose job would you want and why?

One of the Librarians helping people use resources, find information and books by their favourite author.  This is where I started my career as a Librarian and really enjoyed this work.

What is your favourite part about working at the library?

The way libraries keep adapting to meet the needs of their communities.

Which library program or service have/do you most like sharing with the community?

I have recently joined and have been very impressed with the great collections, services and programs. It’s hard to pick one, but the library lockers at Hurlingham Park and the Branch Out after hours access at Hampton Park increase access to library services where it hasn’t been possible in the past. These have been great to share with the community.
