Statement on the Brighton Savoy

Bayside City Council has resolved to issue a Notice of Decision to grant an amendment to a permit for the Brighton Savoy Hotel at 150 Esplanade Brighton.

Bayside Mayor, Cr Alex del Porto said that the permit allows the hotel to be used for community care accommodation offering wellness and rehabilitation programs.

"The decision to issue a Notice of Decision to grant the amended permit with conditions aims to address resident concerns while enabling the provision of valuable care services.

Council set conditions for the use including a 12-month review of the management plan for the facility, a participant limit, minimum staffing levels and measures to ensure active management/monitoring of the premises.

Community care facilities play an important role in supporting the physical and mental health of the community and I am confident the conditions imposed by Council will help to ensure the services can operate effectively and unobtrusively."
