Summer safe

With the advent of warmer weather we're encouraging everyone to be safe and aware of Local Laws that help to make our great outdoors enjoyable for everyone

Bayside’s 17 kilometres of stunning foreshore and our beautiful parks and reserves are well utilised at this time of year as we soak up summer.

We urge everyone to have fun out there but to do so safely, and to be aware of Local Laws around behaviour and the consumption of alcohol.

Keeping our open spaces safe and enjoyable for everyone

Bayside has several Local Laws that Victoria Police enforce over the summer to help ensure our public spaces remain safe and enjoyable places.

These laws include bans on:

  • the consumption and possession of alcohol in reserves and foreshores between sunset and sunrise
  • the consumption or possession of alcohol in streets and footpaths at all times
  • intoxicated people entering or remaining in public reserves.

The Local Law also requires permits for:

  • amplified music that might negatively impact on the enjoyment of others
  • camping
  • lighting a fire in any municipal place or reserve

There are fines for defacing or damaging a municipal place.

Behaviour in any Council reserve is also subject to Local Law. For example, littering, damaging plants, interfering with structures and behaving in a disorderly manner or taking part in a fight can attract a $200 fine.

Gambling and taking drugs are also prohibited on municipal reserves.
