Thomas Street set for a major makeover

Council will be totally rebuilding the road, kerbs, gutters, vehicle crossovers, stormwater connections and drainage systems along the western end of Thomas Street, Hampton to improve the standard and functionality of these important community assets.

The project will be done in four stages and vehicle access to the Holy Trinity Church, kindergarten, vet and Suwan Thai restaurant in Thomas Street will be temporarily affected from 7 February – April 2022 (but remain open throughout the works). Pedestrian access will always be available throughout the project duration. The Thomas Street entrance to the public car park will be closed later in February but access will remain available via the Service Street entrance.

Each year Council prioritises one road in Bayside for complete reconstruction as part of its Road Management Plan 2021 based on condition, demand and utilisation. Reconstruction involves complete removal of the asphalt surface, reconstruction of the underlying pavement and upgrade of the local drainage system. The road will then be good as new, reducing the need and cost of regular maintenance.

The four stages of the project are:
