Warm Water Pool election funding pledge

The Liberal/National Party has pledged $5million towards Bayside’s proposed warm water pool if re-elected to government at the 21 May federal election, helping Council to deliver important health and wellbeing infrastructure for our community

Bayside Mayor, Cr Alex del Porto welcomed the announcement by Goldstein MP, Tim Wilson at the proposed site at Brighton Golf Course today.

Cr del Porto called on the Australian Labor Party to match the election pledge.

“A warm water pool within Bayside will benefit members of our community of all ages, but particularly our older residents and those with a disability,” Cr del Porto said.

“Bayside’s population is aging, with an increasing percentage of older residents and those with a disability, obesity, or health conditions. High participation in sport and rehabilitation after injury; as well as strong demand for younger children’s swimming lessons also supports the need for a local warm water pool,” he said.

“There is strong community support for the need for a warm water pool in Bayside. We have recently completed engagement on our preferred site at Brighton Golf Course and are working through the feedback to be considered by Council.”

The construction and provision of a warm water pool is a significant investment, with an expected cost of $17 million.

In line with Bayside’s commitment to carbon neutrality and our Climate Emergency Action Plan, the new facility will implement innovative environmentally sustainable and efficient energy management techniques.
