Bayside Gallery’s new exhibition Lynne Boyd: Holding the silver sea

Bayside Gallery is thrilled to showcase its newest exhibition Lynne Boyd: Holding the silver sea from 2 March to 28 April 2024.

Melbourne artist Lynne Boyd (1953-2022) aimed to capture ephemeral beauty and timelessness in her lyrical paintings which range from romantic realism to minimalist tonal abstraction.

This major exhibition is the first to survey her four-decade engagement with Port Phillip Bay, bringing together a selection of 40 key works that demonstrate the artist’s fascination with the atmospheric dimensions of this familiar locale.

Living in the beachside suburbs of Albert Park, South Melbourne, St Kilda and East Brighton for the majority of her life, Boyd developed a fascination with the moods and pictorial characteristics of Port Phillip Bay.

She began exhibiting her paintings of the Bay in the mid-1980s, and variations on this subject remained the core of her practice thereafter.

Bayside Mayor, Cr Fiona Stitfold said, "It is an honour for Bayside Gallery to host an exhibition for the community celebrating one of Melbourne’s most important natural landmarks."

Lynne Boyd: Holding the silver sea exhibition is free entry and open to the public. You can visit the exhibition until 28 April 2024.
