Celebrating Margaret Gibson for International Nurses Day

In celebration of International Nurses Day, we would like to congratulate Margaret Gibson for over 36 years of service as a Maternal Health Nurse at Bayside City Council.

Margaret has worked across the municipality in Brighton, North Brighton, Sandringham and Beaumaris.

She has spent the last 13 years at the Beaumaris Maternal and Child Health centre, where she now works three days a week.

“I work with a great team and I enjoy the work,” Margaret says. “It's just a nice culture and a really good team. There’s a lot of professional, smart, capable, committed nurses.”

This year marks 62 years since Margaret began her career as a nurse.

In 1996, Margaret went back to school and completed a Masters in Public Health. It is the desire to apply academic knowledge in practical forms that has kept her motivated in her profession throughout the years.

“That's why I didn't go into management and I stayed in practice because there's an art and science to clinical practice, and I enjoy applying that science to everyday things that make life easier.”

“Also, I enjoy empowering the Mums. I like doing the groups because Mums come in and they are a bit timid and a bit unsure of themselves. By the time we finish the group, they're confident and they're enjoying their babies.”

Many Bayside residents may be familiar with Margaret, who has worked with parents that she previously looked after when they were babies.

Congratulations to Margaret for all her hard work and commitment for over three and a half decades with Bayside!
