Get cash for your containers

Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) is here.

The Victorian Government has launched its highly anticipated Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) to encourage recycling and reduce litter.

The scheme can help you turn eligible containers into 10 cents per item. It's cash for containers!

How it works

It's simple and easy to recycle containers via the scheme:

  • Collect eligible containers
  • Return for a 10 cent refund at designated refund collection points
  • The recycled materials are used to produce new recycled products, contributing to a sustainable and eco-friendly cycle.

For a comprehensive list of eligible containers, please visit the Victorian Government's website.

There's no change to our existing kerbside recycling system remains - the CDS provides another option to take eligible containers to a refund point.

The scheme's objectives go beyond reducing litter and aim to create new economic opportunities, generate jobs, and transform used drink containers into new products.

Collection points

There's a variety of collection points including:

  • Reverse vending machines which are a quick and efficient way to return containers
  • Over the counter at small businesses and charities for smaller quantities of containers
  • Depots which can take larger quantities of containers.

The Bayside Waste & Recycling Centre is a key CDS location in Bayside. Located at 144 Talinga Rd, Cheltenham, the centre can take small and larger quantities of containers.

To find the other refund point locations in Bayside, visit the Victorian Government refund point map.

More refund collection points will be established over the next 12 months.

The scheme is aimed at creating a cleaner, more sustainable Victora - start collecting your eligible containers and be part of this positive change for our environment and economy.
