Meet our friendly librarian Catie

How long have you worked at Bayside Libraries?

I am the Programs Lead and I have worked at Bayside for two years. In this time, our libraries have run over 2000 programs with around 40000 attendees! I've worked in libraries for twelve years, after a varied career ranging from managing cafes to working as an OHS policy advisor.

What are you currently reading?

I'm currently reading "Everyone on This Train is a Suspect" by Benjamin Stevenson. It's a Hot Read at Brighton - I love our Hot Reads! Other Hot Reads I've enjoyed recently include Richard Osman's "The Last Devil to Die", Patrick deWitt's "The Librarianist", Beth O'Leary's "The Wake-Up Call", Ann Cleeves "The Raging Storm", Margaret Hickey's "Broken Bay', Gabbie Stroud's "The Things That Matter Most" and Kate Atkinson's "Normal Rules Don't Apply". I'm fortunate to work across all our branches and find it hard to leave a branch without another book!

What is your favourite genre to read?

Choosing a favourite genre is hard as I read widely, but I seem to read more Crime than anything else. I read and adored Agatha Christie when I was very young and today I am a proud member of Sisters in Crime

Why do you love working in libraries?

I LOVE libraries because they change lives. They certainly changed mine. I am a huge reader and I would be bankrupt without libraries! However, libraries aren't just about books, they are about community. I can't decide on a most cherished memory because I feel so privileged to be in a role that has given me the opportunity to work closely with the most amazing authors, including Sally Hepworth, Kerryn Mayne, Toni Jordan, Vikki Petraitis...
