Meet Paige - the friendly librarian

Get to know our librarians and their book recommendations

We would like to cast a spotlight on Bayside Libraries' staff member, Paige. She's a passionate Children and Youth Services Librarian who adores working with children.

What are you currently reading and listening to, Paige?

I have just finished reading Why Are We Here by Australian author, Briohny Doyle. This is a reflective and tender story where a woman, living by the sea, processes the grief of her father and partner amid COVID-19 lockdowns. I love stories that offer thoughtful reflections on the human condition and the nature of reality. Up next on my list is Bad Art Mother, written by Edwina Preston.

I drive around listening to alt-indie rock, and my favourite bands include The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, and LCD Soundsystem. However, I have been totally obsessed with Arlo Park’s punchy and fiery new album ‘My Soft Machine’.

Which children's picture books are your favourite?

My favourite children’s books, that should also be read by adults (for a medicinal dose of innocent wisdom) include:

One and Everything by Sam Winston

The Gargoyle by Zana Fraillon

The Skull: A Tyrolean Folktale

Paradise Sands by Levi Penfold

The Book of Mean People by Toni Morrison and Slade Morrison

How long have you worked at Bayside Libraries? Any memories you wish to share?

I have been working at Bayside Libraries for almost two years in the role of Children and Youth Services Librarian. My favourite time of the week is during Baby Rhyme Time, watching the wondrous joy on the babies faces as they are lifted into the air - flying to the moon, or up the hickory dickory clock. I am blessed to be working in a wholesome environment, introducing children to the fun and rhythm of language, and the tremendous world of stories.
