New tricks at Wishart Reserve

We’re upgrading the dog off-leash area within Wishart Reserve to provide a more enriching exercise and training space for dogs and their walkers.

The design allows for areas of quiet exploratory/sensory investigation by dogs, as well as open areas for interactive and social play. New additions to the off-leash area include a range of dog agility equipment, double gated entry, two water bowls and drinking fountains and plenty more trees and vegetation to provide much-needed shade and areas worth sniffing.

We amended the original concept design in response to community feedback to include a separate pedestrian access path along the south boundary of the Reserve. The new path will ensure community members can get from Wishart Street to Bluff Road without entering the dedicated dog off-leash area. We’ve also repositioned some play elements, such as a digging pit, further away from neighbouring properties.

It is expected that works will commence later this year and take approximately four months to complete. Visitors to the park are reminded that dogs must be on-leash until they enter the fenced area designated off-leash. This ensures other community members can enjoy the playground and passive recreation areas within Wishart Reserve.

As a pet owner, you have certain responsibilities to your community. Going walkies? Dogs must be on a lead unless in a designated off-leash area. Even in a designated off-leash area dogs must be on leash within 20 metres of a playground, barbeque, picnic area or an organised sporting event including training.

Please be responsible, respectful and safe when sharing spaces.
