Securing the future of Highett Grassy Woodland and Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve

We’re undertaking a planning scheme amendment to ensure the future conservation of the Highett Grassy Woodland and Yalukit Nature Reserve, embedding key objectives of the Bayside Urban Forest Strategy into the Bayside Planning Scheme.

We’re proposing to rezone the land at Brighton’s Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve, formerly Elsternwick Park golf course, and the Highett Grassy Woodland on the former CSIRO site to the Public Conservation and Resource Zone through Amendment C199bays.

The rezoning of Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve from Public Park and Recreation Zone (PPRZ) to Public Conservation and Resource Zone (PCRZ) reflects the ten-year masterplan to transform the former golf course into a nature reserve and wetland.

As a protected conservation area, the Highett Grassy Woodland will conserve and regenerate indigenous species and natural habitats, including Yellow Box eucalypts that are rare in the Bayside region.

Amendment C199bays is on public exhibition until 9 November 2023.
