Baysiders rolling up their sleeves again

Beaumaris, Black Rock and Sandringham are leading the way in Bayside on the uptake of third doses of COVID-19 vaccinations

Between 60 and 65% of the suburbs’ eligible population have now had their third jab. In the rest of Bayside, it's around 55-60 %.

In children, 5-11 years Brighton East is leading the way with 60-65% having their first jab, with the rest of our municipality hot on their heels at 55-60%.

A third dose - Pfizer or Moderna - is strongly recommended to help prevent waning immunity against COVID-19.

It is now available to anyone aged 16 and over who had their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine three or more months ago.

The Australian Technical Advisory Committee on Immunisation (ATAGI) has recently approved the Pfizer vaccine for use as a third dose in individuals aged 16 to 17 years old

State-run vaccination centres have been expanding to include walk-ups for children aged 5 to 11 years and some schools have been hosting pop-up clinics led by Local Public Health Units.

Bookings at GPs and pharmacies are also available for children aged 5-11 years.

Children will receive Pfizer - one third of the dose given to people aged 12 and over.

The recommended schedule for vaccination in this age group is two doses, eight weeks apart.

Managing COVID-19 at home

Knowing what to do if you get COVID and monitoring your symptoms are important.

Managing COVID-19 at home when you have milder symptoms is safe and appropriate and ensures hospital beds are kept free for people who need urgent medical treatment.

The basic advice is:

For mild symptoms rest and recover at home.

For worsening symptoms contact Nurse on Call 1300 606 024, a GP, or your local pharmacist.

For severe symptoms get immediate help and call 000 if it’s urgent.

To be certain, please check out the Victorian Government’s list of mild, worsening and severe symptoms to get the right help for your recovery.

The page also has information on how to isolate effectively.
