North Brighton Children’s Centre

We have upgraded and expanded the North Brighton Children’s Centre. The new design creates more kindergarten and occasional care places for local children and continues to deliver on-site maternal and child health services.

Key elements include:

  • A purpose-built centre for three-year old and four-year-old kindergarten
  • Occasional care service and a multi-function meeting room
  • An expanded outdoor play area for occasional care
  • Maternal Child Health consulting rooms
  • Environmentally sensitive design
  • On site car parking and landscaping improvements.

This project was delivered as part of Council’s commitment to improving the accessibility and quality of early childhood services in Bayside.

The new North Brighton Children’s Centre continues to provide the same services including kindergarten, occasional care and maternal and child health in a more functional and accessible building.  It will also cater for the State Government’s direction to expand its funded four-year-old kindergarten program to include three-year-old children.

The Centre has been reconfigured to provide two kindergarten rooms of 33 and 22 places, creating an additional 14 kindergarten places for children. Additionally, with a flexible room design, five more places have been created for occasional care enabling either one or two concurrent programs to be offered.

The new building features environmentally sensitive design, an extended outdoor play area for occasional care and provide onsite car parking.

Project update – July 2023

North Brighton Children’s Centre can now welcome all early years services back into the upgraded Centre.

Despite the challenging construction environment, works were expedited to enable three and four-year-old kindergarten classes to resume in February while works continued on the Playroom and Maternal and Child Health service areas.

The Maternal and Child Health services recommenced in the Centre in late-June, with the Brighton Playroom welcoming children back at the start of Term 3 on 10 July 2023.

Council’s $2.4 million investment is supported by a $600,000 Victorian Government Building Blocks Capacity Grant.

Construction will commence in mid-June 2022 and be complete by the mid 2023.

From July 2023, all services including the Kindergarten, Playroom, and Maternal and Child Health are operating from the new Centre.
